Access to WINDOW is changing

Filed under: Alerts — Jessie Durand @ 10:52 am

WHO: All Faculty and Staff
WHAT: The way to access WINDOW is changing
WHEN: Effective August 1, 2010
WHY: Moving toward a single sign-on environment
DETAILS: In a continuing effort to improve the way we access technology and systems on campus, LIS is moving us closer to a single sign-on environment. Effective August 1, 2010, LIS will be changing the way in which you can access WINDOW.

On that date, all access to WINDOW will be done through insideWheaton at https://inside.wheatoncollege.edu/. You will no longer be able to access WINDOW directly via its old URL (window.wheatonma.edu). In addition, you will no longer need your WINDOW PIN.

To get to WINDOW via insideWheaton, follow these steps:
- Go to the Wheaton homepage and click on the “insideWheaton” link at the top.
- Sign in with your Wheaton ID (wID) and password. This is the same password you use for email.
- Once you are signed in, you will see the WINDOW channel on the “Welcome” tab. This channel provides access to all of the forms and pages that you normally use in WINDOW.

If you have any questions, please contact LIS Technology Support at 508.286.3900 or email support@wheatonma.edu.

Required upgrade of ESET NOD32 anti-virus software

Filed under: Alerts — Jessie Durand @ 8:57 am

WHO: Users of Windows Operating System Computers

WHAT: Required upgrade of ESET NOD32 anti-virus software

WHEN: As soon as possible

WHY: To protect your computer from the latest malware and viruses

DETAILS:

Recently we have seen an increase in computers becoming infected by malware. The most common infection we have seen has been “ANTIVIRUS 2010” which uses highly aggressive marketing tactics such as system tray security alerts, pop-ups and bogus system scans containing false results. Our anti-virus / anti-malware software vendor, ESET, has responded to this problem by issuing an update to its ESET NOD32 application.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:
The update requires users to manually upgrade their anti-virus software. Please follow the directions found on this site to complete your upgrade. We recommend you print them out before following them. The whole upgrade will take less than five minutes to do.

As always, if you need assistance please contact Tech Support at 508.286.3900 or by emailing support@wheatonma.edu. If you have any questions or concerns about this upgrade please contact Sue Morgado at 508.286.3754 or smorgado@wheatonma.edu.

Fake Conficker.B Infection Alert

Filed under: Alerts — Tags: — Jessie Durand @ 8:31 am

An ongoing spam campaign is once again attempting to impersonate Microsoft’s security team. Please be aware these emails are fraudulent and should be deleted and not responded to. For more info please contact Technology Support at extension 3900. Below is an example of the email being circulated.

“Dear Microsoft Customer,

Starting 18/10/2009 the ‘Conficker’ worm began infecting Microsoft customers unusually rapidly. Microsoft has been advised by your Internet provider that your network is infected. To counteract further spread we advise removing the infection using an antispyware program. We are supplying all effected Windows Users with a free system scan in order to clean any files infected by the virus.

Please install attached file to start the scan. The process takes under a minute and will prevent your files from being compromised. We appreciate your prompt cooperation.

Regards,
Microsoft Windows Agent #2 (Hollis)
Microsoft Windows Computer Safety Division”
